The year 2004-2005 has been an exciting year for the Project.
Here are just a few of the things we have been successful with during this
last year:
We continue to run two very successful breakfast clubs,
which daily cater for 30 children each (on two key sites – Milton Court School
and Regis Manor School) throughout term time – resulting in an enormous number
of breakfasts! We now employ two mothers from the community to run the
breakfast club at Milton Court School.
A fun and games day was held during the October and
February half terms with around 60 children attending on both days.
We continue to run three successful After School Clubs
- Hama Beads x 2, and Games – with around 20 children attending each club.
New for 2004- lunchtime Games Club at Regis Manor
School with 19 children attending and the Come and Make lunchtime club at
Milton Court School.
Our weekly coffee morning for mums to drop in at Milton
Court continues to be a success. We have had a wild and varied programme of
events from school nurses, health visitors, Home Start through to Paediatric
First Aid and chocolate tasting.
New for 2005 – Afternoon Tea and Natter at Regis
Manor, same as a coffee morning but in the afternoon.
The parent and toddler group continues to be successful
with a growth in number of children attending.
New for 2004 – Baby Café – run in conjunction with the
Salvation Army. We currently have 13 babies registered, with on average 8
attending each week. This provides a venue for new mums to meet together and
swap experiences. We also have a Health Visitor drop in every 6-8 weeks.
In partnership with the Salvation Army we have jointly
delivered a Parenting Information Session courses (our own), and a Handling
Children’s Behaviour courses – all for parents. These have been found to be so
valuable by parents that they set up their own (facilitated) support group.
The Pre School (Milton Early Years and Childcare
Project) (two sessions daily) continues to run effectively and continues to
have higher demand for spaces than spaces available.
The Project staff continues to help out within the
schools, whether as part of the Reading For Life Scheme at Regis Manor or at
Christmas Fairs, or on school trips.
Throughout the year we have continued to build on our good reputation amongst
the community – the benefits of which we are starting to see by greater
community involvement in breakfast club and holiday clubs.
